This is me in a nutshell.
Specs:
- 50% Chinese, 50% Vietnamese, 100% nutty
Occupation:
- full-time researcher in biotech or science nerd as David would say
- part-time/unpaid realtor’s assistant
Loves (a strong word I don’t use often):
- my hubby, who indulges me in all my madness and waits, sometimes not so patiently, for his food while I snap a million pics
Likes:
- serving food and shoveling dirt (a.k.a volunteering)
- sleep
- pretty flowers (who doesn’t?)
- ice cream in the winter
- killing time in furniture and houseware stores
- hiking
- going to the driving range on a good day
Dislikes:
- the obvious
- waking up early
- driving in the city
- mint chocolate combo
- pb&j together, but separately is okay
- coleslaw, cold macaroni or potato salad – see the trend?
Weaknesses:
- a good latte
- chocolate
- desserts
- any kind of potato other than cold potato salad
Distractions:
- planning my next vacation
- food, photo and travel blogs
- bejeweled
Guilty pleasure:
- reality TV shows
One of my many faults:
- too blunt
In search of:
- my true calling
Goals:
- to travel the world
- strive to be a better person
Purpose of blog:
- to share my mishaps and successes in the kitchen or whatever comes to mind
- outlet for my not so creative side
And there you have it.
I like ice cream and other cold stuff during cold weather, too but I have to disagree with you on the cold macaroni and cold potato salad. My husband makes the best versions of these so I guess no one can convince me they’re not good, hahaha.
I’m glad you clicked on my blog for a few minutes because that’s how I found your blog. Here’s to more happy, uh, trials! π
i would love the recipes for your husband’s macaroni and potato salads!
YOU PLAY BEJEWELED????????????
Really great page! I like the title In a Nutshell. I’m following your blog now.
Thanks! Hope you continue to like what you see! π
What a delightful introduction to you! Thank you for the visual delight of your well designed blog (i think I may need to play with the structure template now:) and the pleasure of your wit.
Cheers!
Thank-you! I’ve played with many themes before settling on this one. Actually, I take that back. I still itch to change it from time to time. Thanks for stopping by!
Ice cream in winter- agreed =D
especially in front of a warm fireplace. π
OMG, you don’t like mint/chocolate combo?!?! How can that be?? π
i could eat it….if there was nothing else to eat. π

Ah I have a soft spot for science people that love to cook. Especially since you have all these Chinese and Vietnamese recipes you want to try out! I have a few Vietnamese dishes I want to get from my mom too. Following and adding you to my blog roll!
thanks! does your mom write down her recipes for you? i would love to try some of her recipes! i think science makes me an okay cook since i can follow instructions. π
your opinions on potatoes could not be more spot on! i encourage you to try cooking vegetarian/ vegan for an experiment sometime…. can prove to be very tasty!

i don’t doubt it! i am trying to find ways to get more veggies in our diet.
“my hubby, who indulges me in all my madness and waits, sometimes not so patiently, for his food while I snap a million pics”– yep, same thing here. My hubby waits around while his food gets cold so I can take pictures. π
sounds like you have an awesome hubby! π sometimes i prepare a plate for after we eat to take pics.
Thanks for checking out my blog. Good luck in all your food experiments. Cooking explorations are the best π
thanks! it’s good when it turns out delicious. π
You have a lovely layout here–lots of unique character/flavor. I will be back often!

“my hubby, who indulges me in all my madness and waits, sometimes not so patiently, for his food while I snap a million pics”
Haha, so recognizable!!!
i think this is quite common in the food blogging world. π
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on the Red Velvet Cake recipe. I hope you try it sometime and let me know what you think. It is absolutely fabulous, if I don’t say so myself! Please feel free to drop by anytime and ask questions or offer comments….and enjoy the Red Velvet Cake!
i’ve never made red velvet cake before. i just might have to give the recipe a try since my husband loves red velvet cake. π
You will absolutely love this recipe. I’m not kidding when I say it is fantastic. (You may not want to die for it, but it is an excellent cake and the frosting is yummy, too). Make a batch and a half of the frosting to have enough for this cake if you make layers rather than as an oblong pan. (Layers are so much prettier). This is one of those great special occasion cakes to bake for birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s days, anniversaries, etc.
I’m sure you’ll love it. Please let me know how it turns out.
Hey:-) ! I nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award! If you want to accept and participate just click here and follow the steps!

why thank-you very much! π what an honour!
Hi! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I don’t think I would have found yours otherwise! You have some really lovely recipes that I would like to try plus great photography too. I also have a question relating to your theme. I have the same one and was wondering how you got the revolving images at the top of your homepage? It looks great and I would love to know how to add it to mine. Thanks.
Thank-you for the kind words. π To get the revolving images, you have to make your post “sticky”. To do this, bring up one of your posts in the dashboard. On the right hand side, click “edit” beside the “visibility” and select “Stick this post to the front page”. Hope this helps! I had the same question when I started using this theme. π
Thank you ever so much for your help! It works now. π
hi, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to look at my recipe for Focaccia! I am a novice in the world of blogging so you have been a welcome visitor… You like ice-cream in the winter? how is that possible when it’s so cold? Great blog, makes me want to cook already, and it’s only 10:40 in the morning! ciao
thank-you so much! i like having ice cream in the winter when i’m inside next to a warm fireplace and under a blanket. π
ah, that’s the secret, a fireplace and a blanket, now I understand….I should try this…..!
I have nominated you for the Sunshine Award at this link: http://daisyandthefox.wordpress.com/2012/11/24/the-sunshine-awards/
congratulations! you deserve it! π
thank-you kindly! π
Love your blog and this page! I wish you and your loved ones a happy, successful, rewarding, joyful, and healthy 2013.
thank-you so much! a bit late, but happy new year to you too! all the best! π
Incredible blog! This is hands down the best ‘nutshell’ (aka About) page I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. Brilliant format, and the info about you just makes me want to stay and read everything I can here. Thanks for sharing your cleverness π
Cheers, Gina
I like ice cream in the winter, too, so there you have it….! π
it’s the best! π
Great blog. I get what you mean about photographing dinner – it’s become a strange ‘norm’ in our house π
LOL π
I like so many of the same things you do – hiking, travel, chocolate, and lattes are some of them. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am glad to have found yours.
thank-you! π
Nice blog. I really like the photos. Wish mine were of the same quality, alas, I use a real cheap camera that’s covered in qrease from shooting on the line at the restaurants. Don’t have much time for quality, just point and shoot. Look forward to reading more of your posts.
thank-you!! some point and shoots are pretty good quality too! π
What a great blog!!! I have spent a good couple of hours enjoying it! Thanks for the great food and inspiration!
PS you and your hubby seem like another version of my better half and I! Had a good laugh at some of the similarities.
Thanks again
MD
thanks for reading and the kind comment! come again! π
“my hubby, who indulges me in all my madness and waits, sometimes not so patiently, for his food while I snap a million pics” … haha! this is a recurring issue when writing about good food! Thanks for the read π
We had to laugh when we got to the line about your husband waiting patiently for his food while you snap photos. Our guests often make the same joke about dining with usβ¦ But we do our best to make sure the wait is worth it! Whidbey Island seems like such a cool place – definitely a place we’d like to visit. Thanks for stopping by our blog – it allowed us to find yours. We look forward to seeing more of your food and photography!
I love your blog! I am fairly new and inexperienced blogwise, but yours has inspired me! I am also half Chinese and look forward to trying some recipes! Also thanks for checking out my blog!
